There are many ways to be anxious, but I’m not especially interested in that kind of anxiety. My interest is in the kind of anxiety that goes away when you stop worrying about it.
The reason all diets work is because they make you feel better, in some way or other. The keto diet doesn’t work for all kinds of reasons. Mainly, it doesn’t work because it isn’t the right diet for everyone. But there are also two other reasons why it isn’t always the right diet for everyone: people who are already anxious are especially likely to have trouble with it, and people with certain kinds of anxiety can sometimes be helped by specific dietary restrictions.
So instead of trying to understand keto diets in general terms, I’m going to talk about anxiety and the benefits of keto for anxiety.
The basic idea behind the ketogenic diet is that high-carbohydrate foods are converted into sugars in your body, which makes you feel hungry. On a standard American diet, where most food contains at least 30 grams of carbohydrate per serving (60 grams if you’re having more than one portion), your body will convert this food into glucose and store it as fat, making you feel hungry again soon after eating.

In an age when “aging gracefully” means feeling tired all day every day, this lack of understanding can be a serious problem for anyone.
